was introduced to the poetry of Hassan Dars by Sameer. We have spent many many nights during our civil service training playing and singing this. The inspiration behind this arrangement is The Sketches which is one of the best bands we have in the country who have also re-vitalised Sindhi poetry, bringing them to the masses.

Since our jobs started, Sameer and I always talked about getting together and playing something. I am so grateful that he lent his beautiful voice to this track on my request.

The text of the poetry and the translation (by another talented batchmate, Aadarsh Jawahery) is written at the bottom of this post so everyone can enjoy Sameer’s voice and Hassan Dars shbs poetry to the fullest.

Pakhi Pardes ja sooraj, Paran poyan larey tho pyo
Warir un waat te wethal, agyaan jitrin rarey tho pyo

Lagi wai laar san aalaon, awhan khe byo bhala cha chaoon
Asaan khe ishq sarin jeeya, Chande phookey charain tho pyo

Rough Translation:

Sun is setting behind the wings of a Foreign Bird,
Warir (A caste in southern Sindh) resides there, where the desert keeps on roaring,

I have fallen in love with Laar, what else can I say to you,
Love is kneading and filtering me as if I was Wheat,

Amidst my talk, you smiled and left for your city,
Tersest tear lingers still on it's cheeks!
